Improvements on property downtown Sinsinawa. There is a hold up on the title right now. Will look into this.

                        e.  Police Chief, Luke Kovacic

Alderman Biermeier – Asked Chief Kovacic and Mark Fluhr if they are suitably staffed to keep from being fatigued?

The officers have 2200 hrs of overtime. With this overtime it would pay for a 7th full-time officer, which would be great. Already have over 100 calls this year but never fully staffed.

Chief Kovacic – Yes they are over worked. When he started, 7 full timers and 2 part-timers. The crime is different from when strip clubs where downtown. Daytime calls and severity of the calls are going up. Downtown nightlife just not what it has been?

City Manager Herrig – Can justify to hire 1 person in both departments. Would be $162,000 for 2 new employees. We are more proactive by putting the resources where it needs to be.

                        f.  Public Works Director, Mark Fluhr

They are also over worked but they are able to work in rest better then the officers. Will need another person here soon with guys retiring in 5 years (2 or 3 people). Will be short staffed when these guys retire. Note that new employee’s cannot learn all in a year. This is continual.

Alderman Burgmeier – When Mark is ready to retire is there someone already looking at to replace him? Looking at Tony but could also just hire new. We really need to work on hiring people.

Water main break neighbors talked with city works people. They are upset nothing has happened in the 6 years, 400 Oxford to dead end. They have problems 2 to 3 times a year. Had a band 6 foot from the break they where working on. This street needs to be bumped up on the list of streets to be worked on. It is an old system that needs to be taken care of.
